How to play Code Groups

Code Groups is a daily developer word-grouping puzzle. Find four hidden categories among sixteen software engineering terms. The challenge is spotting how familiar words fit together.

  1. Select four terms you think share a connection.
  2. Submit your group. A correct guess reveals its category and removes those tiles.
  3. Find all four groups before making four mistakes. Shuffle or deselect whenever you like.

What does “One away!” mean?

Three of your four selected terms belong to the same unsolved category. The game does not reveal which three. Incorrect guesses clear your selection and use one mistake.

What kinds of connections should I look for?

Think about programming concepts, databases, networking, AI/ML, developer tools, and technical wordplay. A term may suggest several groups, so consider the whole board before submitting.

Do I need an account?

Not for the daily games, which are open to everyone. The puzzle archive needs a BetterSWE account with Pro. Daily progress, streaks, and statistics are saved in this browser, so they do not automatically transfer to another device.

Can I play past puzzles?

Yes, with BetterSWE Pro. Browse the archive by date to revisit earlier challenges. Archive play is separate from your scored daily attempt and does not advance your daily streak.
